Our Purpose

To provide a GLOBAL KNOWLEDGE e-NETWORK:

1.  Targeted at interested researchers and practitioners in the field of sustainable tourism as a tool to assist in the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.

2.  Focused on sharing and improving the knowledge base on the capacity of sustainable tourism policies and practices to make a real contribution to the promotion of gender equity and the empowerment of women in all regions of the world, particularly in the less developed countries.

3.  To bring gender aspects of tourism to the attention of policy makers, especially the issues of women’s employment in the tourism industry and women’s local participation in tourism planning and management.

Key issues:

  • Tourism and the Millennium Development Goals – specifically gender equity.

  • Building the research foundation on the topic of tourism and gender.

  • Empowering women through sustainable tourism – particularly in the developing world.

  • Developing appropriate tools and approaches to address the issue.

  • The need of donor agencies/NGOs/Governments/Industry to have better information on which to base policies, strategies and actions for sustainable tourism to contribute to the promotion of gender equity and the empowerment of women.

Our Mission:

Provide a global e-Network platform to share and build quality research, activities and projects to support and enable women as agents of change in and for sustainable tourism
